Ever since I started making an effort to make reading my habit, I have trully seen the results. Recently I got an opportunity to download an online course to help stay at homes moms earn a living. My mind quickly got to think at lenght on a statement that was mensioned by one of the elderly back when I was a child. The statement says, ‘Without an additional cent, it doesn’t up to a Million Dolars’. Such statements can be associated with drunkards. Believe it or not, this statement is true.

Stay at home moms have practical experiance on collecting literal cents that add up to thousands of Dolars at the end of the day. If you are a webmaster or doing any kind of online business you’ll know that I’m telling the truth. Possibly, you may as well understand better if you’re running a grocery shop or selling daily newspapers. To influence your bottom line, you need to push a lot of those units, it doesn’t matter whether its online or offline.

I have decided to take the online/internet approach and I know that it may seem out of order. However, I’m definate that there is something to be learnt from it and the lesson is applicable offline as well. My understanding of the internet business is that it capitalizes on leaverage. Leaverage works hand in hand with volumes/repeated sales, as you will see later on. That is why continuously working on increasing traffic for one’s website is the key to success in the internet world.

This is mainly made possible by the advantages brought by today’s digital age. Authors, Artists, composers, inventors, designers, etc have the advantage of selling thier intelectual property at a highly competitive price without compromising the quality of their products to any of their consumers. Editing, improving or making changes to digital products has become so easy that it costs close to nothing. Unlike in the olden days where doublicating meant a loss in quality and making changes could easily mean starting afresh.

Today, the only dertemining factor that separates amatures from gurus are the standards that each one of them set. I’ll make an example of myself, I’m an author who writes for three different local magazines and several online publishers. One of my standards is that of not submitting less than one page length of articles. For me, if it is still within an A4 page on a ‘Times New Roman’ font-size 12, its not enough.

Getting back to our subject, you’ll know that many people want to start businesses that will have a big impact on their profits from one or a few sales. I’m afraid today’s real business has taken a different turn as people’s disposable income gets less and less, which inturn influence their buying behavior. Globalization is one contributing factor to this business behavior, simply becuase people can buy from anywhere in the world at a price they can almost dertermine. For example, if you want to continue trying your luck in selling second hand cars, you need to push the volumes and work on your pricing to remain in business.

Lets take a look at one simple arithmetic. A thousand cents make a $ 10, and a Million cents makes $ 10, 000. If you manage to collect a cent a minute of each working day, guess how much you would have accumulated at the end of the day –

8 hours X 60 minutes = 480 cents = $ 4.80

So, don’t mind much about the mark-up or rewards but work on volumes becuase its does make business sense. Off-course not all types of businesses would do for this volume based model.

I have said this many times in my articels but I feel I should repeat it, ‘If running a business doesn’t take courage, then everybody would be doing it!’ I know you may lament like many on commitments you have. My advice to you then is this that you should not give up on collecting those pennies from your micro projects.
